A Sino-Tibetan bronze and gilt ghaṇṭā, 16th century, Tibet, The parcel gilt handle of the bell is cast with a face of Buddha wearing an eight-foliate crown, supporting a band of lotus petals and surmounted by a vajra-form finial. Four prongs emerge from makara mouths around a central prong. The cylindrical handle is attached to the domed-shaped ghaṇṭā decorated with lotus petals each containing Lantra/Rañjanā script symbols above a band of horizontal vajra symbols within beaded borders that are repeated above the splayed foot in vertical form. H 19,5 cm, The grip of the bell has heavy wear; contours have been softened from age and ritual handling.
