拍品为精铜所铸吉祥陈设器，铸造精良，规格硕大，传世品种难有可与之相伯仲者，气势威严。铜狮呈前踞后蹲状，额顶隆起，怒目圆睁，浓眉掀鼻，振鬘长啸。眉、颌下饰以须毛蜷曲，狮鬃盘旋，密布于脑后。四肢健硕强劲，姿态生动；此器大气典雅，质地精良，包浆古朴，锈色熟美，古韵十足，弥足珍贵。
狮子自古以来是雕塑器物中常见的使用题材，取其祥瑞之意，传说释迦佛出生时，一手指天，一手指地，作狮子之吼云：“天上天下，唯我独尊”。又说“释家以狮子勇敢精进，为文殊菩萨骑者”，认为它是高贵尊严的“灵兽”，有护法辟邪的作用等等，所以狮子被认为是一种威严吉祥的动物。
