A pair of Derby white biscuit porcelain two-handled vases, c.1785-95, incised crowned crossed baton and D marks, incised shape No. 116 and repairer star mark for Isaac Farnesworth, each with a fluted neck and leaf-moulded loop handles, applied with a ribbon-tied garland of flowers above an acanthus-leaf band to the lower body, on a fluted foot and square base, the tallest 16cm high (2) Provenance: Christie, London, 11 March 1996, lot 36. C.294-1935 and C.294A-1935). One handle broken through (into three sections) and re-stuck. The other (the example with an incised * to the interior of the neck) has two firing cracks (these are near the top of the up-turned acanthus leaves). Both vases have some slight chipping to the flowers and ribbons and some typical slight firing cracks, all of which are minor.
