Description
Translation provided by Youdao
An Italian maiolica istoriato dish, third-quarter 16th century, probably Urbino, painted with figures emblematic of Autumn and Winter in a mountainous river landscape; Autumn seated on a barrel, Cupid at his feet collecting wine in a cup; Winter warming his hands on a fire, the reverse with concentric ochre bands enclosing a central inscription AVTVNO / 路E路 LIVERNO with a foliate branch and flourish, 27cm diameter Overall this dish is bright and fresh in appearance. There is some restored chipping to the rim, with overpainting to the rim making it difficult to be certain of what it conceals. The restoration appears to be mostly confined to the ochre rim, but there is an area below the fire (at 3 olock) which is overpainted, suggesting that the chip in the location is larger (or a small piece may have been broken out and re-stuck). The chips to the foot rim are extremely small and minor. There are two small firing faults above Winter head these are also extremely minor.
