Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A spectacular free-blown green glass double balsamarium (or ink-well), with an applied sinuous trail handle on each side. The conjoined tubes have a shared rounded base, tall tubular bodies, and rolled rims on top. Wealthy women in ancient Roman times would employ these pieces to contain their precious unguents, inks, or oils, or for holding two different colors of kohl eye makeup. Thin diagonal striations traipse across the lower half of the body, and small areas of rainbow iridescence are certainly eye-catching. Custom lucite display stand included. Size: 4.3" H (10.9 cm); 4.875" H (12.4 cm) on included custom stand. Provenance: private East Coast collection, New York, New York, USA, acquired before 2010 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
