Hakata Urasaki dolls are colorful ceramic figurines that depict everyday life of Japanese people and are popular collectables that were usually sold to U. S. military personnel only - this seated fishmonger has a separate fish upon a tray, displayed upon a bamboo woven and lacquered wood stand. The lightweight tea set consists of 8 cups and 7 plates, each lacquered in red then overpainted with golden yellow pigment and with a black monogram on the side. The chest is covered with paper overlays painted with peonies, women in kimonos, and a samurai; the lid contains a brass lock plate and opens on hinges.
