Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A striking blackware vessel in the form of the head of an elder presenting huge, almond-shaped eyes beneath arched brows, a sharp, curved nose, pursed lips, and an angular chin. His prominent cheekbones project from below his eyes, sharply contrasting his hollow cheeks, which are flanked by a pair of protruding ears. The artist has taken strides to emphasize his age via incised lines that represent the wrinkling folds of flesh on his forehead, the crow's feet extending from his eyes, the laugh lines enveloping his mouth, and the lipstick lines above his mouth.
