拍品直口、长颈，扁圆腹，小巧端庄，因瓶腹部酷似荸荠而得名。红釉之烧造，始于明初，臻于永宣。但红釉之发色极为艰难，窑出多有瑕疵，色正佳器者寥寥，宣德以后，几乎尽弃铜红。朗廷极（1663-1715）康熙四十四年至五十一年间，出任江西巡抚，督理景德镇御窑厂事务，曾命重调明初釉色，仿烧宣德时期霁红宝石釉，期间精品迭出，无论颜色还是造型别具一格，正如此瓶绝色优美。
