砚作仿古钟形，砚首雕刻一对夔龙环形提手为钟钮，夔龙雕琢精细流畅，以钟腹为砚面，淌池式，砚膛与墨池之间椭圆形开光，阳文“大清光绪年造”楷书款。砚沿上刻有细密而又精细的回纹。砚背浅开覆手，边饰亦为回纹。
清砚中有一类是仿制古物，如仿汉石渠阁瓦砚、仿汉伏虎砚、仿唐镜砚等，这是因为金石学盛行，引导文人研究古物，摹刻金石、瓦券、泉币、古镜、古钟之风日盛。
