**Originally Listed At $600** Native American, Southwestern United States, Southwestern New Mexico, Southeast Arizona, and Northern Chihuahua region of Mexico, Mogollon culture, ca. 1000 to 1150 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of an impressive size that is formed via the Reserve Indented Corrugated style, a variation of the traditional coil-and-scrape construction technique that requires immense skill. Each coil was carefully indented with the potter s finger at remarkably regular, tight intervals - a step that contributed to the integrity of the form as well. The rounded base suggests that this vessel was made to be set in a sandy floor. A beautiful vessel with an attractive textured wavy pattern adorning the entire exterior, from rim to base. Size: 11.6" W x 14.5" H (29.5 cm x 36.8 cm) The artists responsible for creating pottery vessels like this one were usually women. Many Mogollon women have been found in burials accompanied by pottery making tools, and vessels similar to this one have been found in the Starkweather Ruin in New Mexico. Provenance: private South Carolina, USA collection All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. We ship worldwide and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience. #171425品相报告: Repaired with areas of loss and looseness between some fissures. Light abrasions, nicks, and encrustations commensurate with age, with softening to some corrugations. Nice preservation to overall form. Please note: the fragile nature of this vessel means additional shipping precautions may be necessary. Please contact us with any questions.
