**Originally Listed At $300** Oceania, Melanesia, Vanuatu, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden pounder used to pulverize taro root and other ingredients into a starchy, edible foodstuff. The slender implement features a thick, tubular body with a smooth, slightly convex pounding face as well as a forked handle that gave the user more flexibility in how they gripped it. The tool is covered in a layer of brown earthen pigment that, while actively flaking, is a great indicator of its age. Size: 19.25" L x 2.1" W (48.9 cm x 5.3 cm) Provenance: private Newport Beach, California, USA collection All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. Nice espresso-hued patina throughout.
