Carved wood with greyish lacquer coating. China, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644)
Statue of the Bodhisattva Guanyin (Avalokiteshvara), carved in the round. The goddess is depicted in seated pose with crossed legs and dressed in a long-draped robe. On her head a crown with Buddha Amitabha. Her right hand is raised performing the vitarka mudra, the left hand laying in her lap and holding a large pearl.
Shape: Elegant sculpture in seated position, carved in the round with flattened base
Dimensions: 83 cm (height), 59 cm (width), 53 cm (depth)
Condition: Age-related condition, some wear to the lacquer surface, partly with age cracks, lower part and base with old, inactive insect traces
