A Maharaja receives a nobleman, Jodhpur, India, 19th century, opaque pigments on paper heightened with gold and silver, the Maharaja shown seated and wearing white against which his patterned turban, sash and jewellery gleams brightly, behind him stand three attentive male courtiers holding ceremonial fan, fly whisk and shield, his guest is depicted unusually large a mark of the rulers respect, and wears similar white garments, a gold sash around his turban and hold a shield, mounted, glazed and framed, painting 20.3 x 28.5cm. This painting bears a strong ressemblance in composition and sitters to one sold at Christie's 20 March 2008, Lot 212 in which Maharaja Vijay Singh receives a visitor and is dated Samvat 1897.Losses to paint in numerous areas, creasing
