A portrait of Diwan Mokham Chand on a terrace, Sikh school, Punjab, India, circa 1840, opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, depicted seated against a blue floral bolster cushion wearing yellow jama and dhoti and smoking a resplendant gem-set gold huqqa, an attendant behind him waving a white hankerchief and another before him, a red floral carpet to their feet and tree to the right, within floral border, on pink album page, 26.7 x 20.3 cm.Diwan Mokham Chand (1750-1814) was a Sikh military officer and a general of Ranjit Singh. He was Commander-in-Chief of the Sikh Forces from 1806 to 1814. Good overall condition
