An Indian Trade Cloth, Gujarat, India, for the Indonesian market, 18th-early 19th century, coarsely woven cotton; block printed and mordant dyed, 21 ft x 30 ins (630 x 75 cm) approx.Loom lengths of piece goods, block printed with an identical design of vertical meandering stems in a continuous S shape decorated with a single multi-petalled flower inside the curve of each S and a single leaf on the outside.The outline of the design was block printed in a black mordant. The ground was mordanted in deep aubergine; the flowers and their stems were reserved in white by the use of a resist and then block printed.Please refer to department for condition report
