John B. Jones (Framingham, Massachusetts, 1782 - 1854) American silver vase. Boston. Marked "J. B. Jones & Co."; "Boston" and "Pure Silver Coin". There is an engraved dedication: "Martha Fredick to her grandson Titus Salter Fredick. July 4. 1834" 9,5 x 12 x 9 cm. Weight: 145 g. This vase is from the period in which John B. Jones created the company J. B. Jones & Co with another partner, which was active between 1833 and 1834. There is a milk jug with the same mark and from the same period kept in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, under the inventory number: RES.34.3. There is also a vase from the same period kept at the Massachusetts Historical Society. Jones’ company prospered, and despite going through various changes of partner, he continued to build a reputation as one of the two or three most prestigious silversmiths in Boston.
