A Chinese Daoist priest's robe, late Qing Dynasty, circa 1900, bright green satin silk couched with a rich pattern of gold thread, the classic central pagoda is held by two dragons surrounded by clouds and surrounding the pagoda are the ancient Daoist symbols and the constellations left and right sit the sun and moon symbol symbols of wisdom and compassion, cranes fly amongst a trellis of clouds and other auspicious characters, a central four-clawed Mang dragon is supported by four other running dragons, the green silk is bordered by a bright blue silk embroidered with many auspicious lions and the Qilin, the neck band is couched with the right trigrams used to enhance the priests predictions, this robe was worn by the highest level priest, the two white tapes hang down the front embroidered with a further dragon and a tiger, approximately 144cm hem to collar and cuff to cuff 168cm 晚清 道袍一件品相报告: in quite bright fresh condition with minor wear and and a few loose threads etc
