A rare Chinese Imperial yellow satin silk Kang cover, Qing Dynasty, 18th century, for a palace day bed used by the Emperor or Empress, the silk embroidered to each end with blues, soft coral and green silk threads of seashells alternating with Chinese tables supporting large flower vases trailing into the landscape of delicate flowers and petals, the central seat is embroidered with thunder dragon parrots, tiny birds and stylised flowers, approximately 240cm x 139cm Embroidered in European style influenced by the European visitors who met the Emperor Qianlong on Court occasions. One dignitary in the late 18th century being Lord McCartney (see lot 364). Many audiences took place in the palaces, especially the Sumner Palace, which was influenced by European grandeur.
