William III oak four-panel coffer or bedding chest, rectangular panelled hinged top over foliate scroll carved frieze with date ‘1702’ and three field panels, raised on block supports, 85cm x 31cm x 78cm highThere is a large crack on the right-hand side of the lid from the edge inward which is 29cm long and another that starts around halfway up the first and is 27cm long. There are shrinkage cracks on all three of the lid panels. The three front panels also have shrink cracks, there is a large chip in the right-hand side bottom corner, and part of the decoration is damaged though this looks to be old. There are nicks, scuff marks, and chips all over some old some newer. One panel on each side has a shrink crack as does the middle rear and right panel. There is woodworm evidence on all sides and three of the legs have noticeable woodworm damage which has resulted in losses. The base panels also have shrinkage, and some areing loose.
