Regarding her study of painting and calligraphy, she was fortunate to have studied under Zhang Daqian (1899-1983), Qian Songyan (1899-1985) and Zhao Shao'ang (1905-1998). Her paintings and calligraphy were exhibited jointly alongside Zhao Shao'ang and Yang Shanshen (1913-2004) in the 1950's, and she held numerous solo exhibitions in the United States, Europe, Singapore, and Japan in the 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's. Although living much of her life outside of China, her art remained committed to tradition, and she evolved to become one of the foremost female Chinese painters of the 20th century.
