A small album with twelve antique pith paper paintings of figures in costumes, Ca. 1820, China, Ten small watercolour paintings of various figures (men and women) in colourful costumes. Each with a simple light blue silk frame and mounted on an album page. Also two larger paintings with a dark blue paper frame (featuring two men in traditional dress). This album has been in the same family since the 19th century when the set was acquired in the then Dutch East-Indies (present day Indonesia), in the front of the album there is a handwritten dedication that says: A.M. Büchler, Soerabaia 11 Dec 1827. Each smaller painting ca. 20 x 13.5 cm, the two larger paintings: 19.5 x 14.5 cm, the album 22 x 16 cm,
