此件作品以寿山石雕琢而成，质地润泽。所雕观音头戴风帽，束高发髻，发丝细密有致；面相圆润，法相庄严，神情安详，低眉慈目似俯视芸芸众生；玉手纤纤相叠，一手持书卷，一手置于膝上；身着广袖长袍，衣纹重褶层叠，飘然欲动，姿态潇逸，所着法衣之纹饰及背部纹饰刻画细腻入微。
寿山石圆雕始于南北朝，迄今所见最早的寿山石雕为福州南朝墓出土的一件石猪，刀法简练，形态粗狂。至清代，寿山石雕进入鼎盛期，薄意浅刻，无所不精；人物、兽钮，各尽其妙。
