大黑体，梵语意译为“玛哈嘎拉”，又译为“救怙主”，为观世音菩萨所化现的愤怒形象的大护法神，居诸大护法神之首。此尊造像头戴五骷髅冠，顶竖忿怒红发，呈忿怒相。体态宽大饱满，踩在一头仰卧的象头天神胸腿上。象头天神左手拿着骷髅碗，右手拿着大罗卜，是北方天的财神，后来被大黑天所降服。主尊三目圆睁，头戴骷髅冠，左展立踩踏仰卧的象鼻天。肩生六臂，上面两臂撕扯象皮，中间两臂持法器，下面两臂当胸持钺刀和骷髅碗。披帛随风飘舞，火焰环绕四周，整体画面构图饱满，线条刚劲，气氛热烈神秘，给人以强烈的视觉冲击。
