A SUPERB PAIR OF MASSIVE FAMILLE VERTE DISHES WITH ELEGANT LADIES Kangxi period, ca. 1700 Each finely decorated in rich 'verte' enamels with two elegantly dressed ladies each in running motion and appearing to being playing a ball game, and watched by three further ladies nearby, one standing before a horse screen, the other two on a terrace beside an open pavilion, a large plantain at the center of the image and two playful boys in the foreground amidst tables, one of stone slab form, and stands supporting jardinieres with flowers, rockwork and with penjing (bonsai), alongside a fenced square fish pond, the everted rims painted with eight alternate cartouches of heart shape containing vessels and scholar's objects and oval shaped ones with paired birds and paired squirrels, all unusually reserved on eight different textile cell grounds centered by individual scrolling flower sprigs, ththe rim exteriors with three simplified floral sprigs and the base with a double-encircled underglaze blue artemisia leaf. 14 1/2in (37.2cm) diam (2).
