Beautiful old middle eastern ceramic vase or vessel with raised images of deer and foliage. I believe this is Kashan and is from Syria or Persia. It is quite magnificent and measures about 7" tall and 8" wide. The turquoise blues are just incredible and I believe it is signed but I cannot make out the name. You can see it in the first photo between the upper and lower deer. It is in very good condition with crazing, and minor flea bites but no cracks. What I thought might have been chips are glaze skips as they are in the crevices where the glaze may not have covered the entire vase. I am still researching and I have another smaller piece. Please read below and you may understand why I think this is an important piece. Provenance: This is from the estate of the daughter of Francis Fowler,Jr. of the Southernfort Whiskey Co . The family founded a museum in 1963 at UCLA called The Fowler Museum of Cultural History, now just The Fowler. This woman had a huge home in Rancho Santa Fe, CA and collected the most amazing things. She had an affinity for the Middle East and her father before her too. From Lalique glass and perfumes to Moroccan / middle eastern and old Asian artifacts, some of which I am listing. I just love the history of some of these estates!
