AN ‘IMITATION MALACHITE’ GLASS BRUSHPOT, BITONG, XUANTONG MARK AND PERIODChina, 1908-1912. Of circular form supported on a flat base, with thick walls and therefore quite resilient overall. The turquoise glass with swirls of lighter and darker hue, cleverly imitating malachite, which itself is not suitable for making a brush pot, because of its rather fragile and porous nature. The recessed base with a wheel-cut four-character markXuantong nianzhi and of the period.Provenance: Auction Art, Rémy Le Fur & Associés, Paris, France, 2012. A private collector in Paris, France, acquired from the above.
