莆田县，位于福建省东部沿海，现为莆田市荔城区。是志首一卷，正文三十六卷，分十二门百零一目。建置门城池目详记县城历修情况；坛庙目记有湄州天后庙、涵江天后宫。秩礼门分庆贺、开读、救护、鞭春、上任、讲读等十三目。戎备门分记官军、乡兵、民兵等七目。人物门分理学、名臣、忠义、风节、清修、儒林等，其中列女有江梅妃传，仙释有天后传。艺文门列著述书目，不汇集诗文。杂事门分丛谈、诗话、耆寿三目。全面系统地记述莆田县自然和社会的历史与现状。 廖必琦，字师韩，号愧荆，邑人，历官户部陕西司主事、江西省额外主事。
