临县，隶属于山西省吕梁市，为中国红枣之乡。临县志于清康熙五十七年首创，后有道光增刻本。至民国初，已近二百年，民国五年修志，翌年成书付梓，记事至六年。本志由胡宗虞修，吴命新等纂。宗虞，字劭周，贵州安顺人，民国四年任临县知事。命新，字敬夫，临县人，仕至岐山知县。全志设图、谱、考、略、录五类，分里族、物产、财赋、兵防、风土、古迹等二十五门，八十七目。首有舆图十余幅，总图绘有经纬线、等高线，设色印制。历代沿革图六幅为朱墨套印，颇为精美。此志体例科学，材料丰富，叙述有方，图表尤佳，堪称方志佳作。
