清乾隆四十四年雅德奉命巡抚山西，时清廷预备再修一统志，通令各省续修志书，以备采择。同时，为预备乾隆巡幸五台山时呈览，雅德乃命绛州州判汪本直以雍正《山西通志》为蓝本，删繁就简，厘为十卷，定名为《山西志辑要》。卷首为省志，冠以晋省全图、会城全图，下为分野、户口、田赋等六目，以见一省概况。以下十卷依次列太原、平阳、汾州、大同等九府，辽、沁、忻、代等十州。各府州前均冠以府州图，先叙府州，后县。府州县下设田赋、关津、物产等十六目。是志篇幅精悍，文字简炼，备载山西概况，洵为名志。拍品开本小巧，刊印精良。
