云林寺即灵隐寺，清康熙帝南巡时，赐名为“云林禅寺”，为清代杭州诸佛寺之冠。乾隆九年寺僧巨涛和尚重建新殿，乃延请该郡士人厉鹗增修新志，增康熙十年以后至乾隆九年间七十余年来之寺史，刊刻成新志八卷，内容之分类则仍沿旧志。因寺改名为云林，故题为“增修云林寺志”。嘉庆时沈鑅彪续修《云林寺志》，汇集乾隆南巡诗等成宸章冠之于首，又访金石于巉岩，并荟萃前闻，间加考证或实地考察，还引证时事，编为《续修云林寺》八卷。此志对研究杭州佛教史及西湖史事有极高参考价值。
