1934年班洪抗英事件引起中英滇缅界务纠纷，国民政府深感解决中缅南段未定界的迫切性，于是国民政府外交部特派云南边地调查专员周光倬对滇缅南段未定界区域开展调查。周光倬对滇西边地的班洪、孟定、猛角、猛董、澜沧等地进行了为时半年的实地考察，调查了解当地的自然环境及民生状况，并作详细记录，撰成此书。拍品封面题“西公厅长惠存”。
