Ca. 4th-3rd century BC. A terracotta bowl crafted with great care and artistry. This hemispherical bowl boasts a wide body, a smooth and undecorated exterior, and a striking interior design. Red painted intersecting two crosses adorn the interior, one formed of quadrupled lines and the other with single lines crossed at 90 degrees. Such terracotta bowls were used for a variety of purposes, such as holding food, or commodities. These vessels were essential for daily life, whether in the home, the marketplace, or at public gatherings. The smooth exterior of the bowl suggests that it was meant to be handled and used frequently, and the absence of elaborate decoration suggests that its primary function was utilitarian.Size: L:60mm / W:170mm ; 390gProvenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market in the 1990s.
