提要：是书为蒋崇年自撰稿本，册前有其所作“卷头语”，讲述他与妻子爱猫之起因与经历，又云：此册《猫谱》是将自译的《猫》和《怎样养猫狗》，及个人养猫经验“混合编成”。封底写有“俟文字通过后再将照片（约八张）奉上”，可知是原欲出版之稿本。殊可珍也！
蒋崇年，名大椿，与顾颉刚为中学同学，朴社成员，曾任朴社总部书记和出版部副经理。译有《结婚与接吻》（上海女子书店，1932年7月初版）、《猫》（苏州出版社，1929年10月初版）。郑逸梅《逸梅小品续集》中载：“学友蒋崇年喜蓄猫若犬，并着猫犬专书以品论之，并谓予曰‘是种作品，虽属无聊，然举眼悠悠，诈谞百出，故与其月旦人物，毋宁品论猫犬之为得也’，予笑颔之。”
