A GRANITE FIGURE OF ADHIKARA NANDI, 15th CENTURYIndia, 15th century or earlier. The granite statue depicting Nandi in both human and bull form, the four-armed human form holding the attributes parasu (battle axe) and the miṛga (antelope) in the secondary hands, the main hands are folded at the chest in the Anjali mudra (obeisance). Together with the bull the complete composition is a mirror reflection of Shiva's classical iconography. This statue is a rare iconographic representation of Shiva philosophy ‘Shivoham’ or ‘I am Shiva’. Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age, extensive wear, losses, and signs of weathering. Provenance: French private collection, acquired in the Dutch auction market.
