王乃壮，男，1928年2月生。浙江杭州人。祖父王福庵为杭州西泠印社创始人。幼承家传，酷爱书画。1949年入刘海粟氏创建之上海美专学西画。1949年转入北京中央美术学院，得徐悲鸿、吴作人大师指点。60年代又从师李苦禅学习水墨大写意与书法，作品追求新意，具有粗犷深沉、精致典雅的风格。由于长期在清华大学授课，讲授西方美术史，广泛触及诸多流派而能融会贯通，画风不断演变。为清华大学教授、中国美术家协会理事、中国现代书法学会艺术顾问、山东龙山艺术院副院长。台湾美术家协会荣誉理事，中央书画社高级顾问。
