方炳南（1841—1911）又名绍廉，自号种菊轩主。梁平人。晚清著名画家。善画花卉，笔意蓬勃，生动有意趣，深得朱熊笔法。晚年经周善培聘为教授，生徒颇众，名噪一时。年轻时在纸扎店学艺，以竹篾、芦苇、绫罗和彩纸等制成各种车马、花灯、玩具、盆景、瓜果。精湛的纸扎手艺，名闻万县、重庆、成都等地。除向民间老艺人学习绘画外，还拜竹禅为师。曾顺长江而下，登黄鹤楼，极目楚天汉水；攀庐山，纵观吴头楚尾；上石头城，赏六朝胜迹。到上海后，他向当时著名的花鸟画家朱梦庐、任伯年、马镜江请教，受益匪浅。
壬午秋八月拟恽南田法，百子图为奉，云生仁兄大人方家指正，炳南弟，绍廉。
