端石雕就，色泽红褐，边框宽厚，大气沉稳，砚堂作门子式，砚额处浅浮雕双龙戏珠文，龙身短而健，将孔武有力的姿态淋漓尽显，一爪前探，似在争夺上方宝珠。设计巧妙，别出心裁。砚背抄手式。
抄手砚饰宋代砚台中最具代表性的造型之一，亦称插手砚，太史砚。时至清代其制更加精细秀逸。在其线面处理上，以清雅简约自尚，仍注重实用，而多质朴，脱弃繁冘华丽之风，颇多金石书卷之气，可谓“质胜于文”。
