Roman early 2nd cent. A.D. Marble, fine-grained.
H. 4 29/64 in; 3 17/64 in; 11.3 cm W. 8.3 cm D. 3 13/16 in; 9.7 cm
His long, curly hair is braided over the forehead and top of his head. The head is turned to left. The round face has narrow, almond-shaped eyes. The head is inclined slightly, indicating that the posture of the statuette as a whole was very dynamic. Possibly the head belonged to a copy or replica of Eros Stringing his Bow by Lysippos (3rd quarter 4th cent. B.C.)
Face, hair above forehead and neck slightly worn.
Formerly American priv. coll., acquired ca. 1960. Thereafter Sotheby's, New York, 6.12.2006, lot 128b.
