木质为墨西哥产新红酸枝，学名微凹黄檀，上半部镂空雕刻。上下均采用玉石镶嵌工艺，镶嵌多种玉石、木雕件和牛骨雕件，做工精美。该工艺最早出现于明代，明清时期为皇家宫廷技艺，在螺钿镶嵌工艺的基础上，加入宝石、玉石等多种经过加工的珍贵材料，从而达到突出构图主题和强化装饰效果的目的。
