徐扬，字云亭，是江苏苏州人，生卒年不详。他的画作《姑苏繁华图》，又名《盛世滋生图》，创作于乾隆二十四年（公元1759年），全幅比北宋张择端的《清明上河图》长出一倍多，精细地描绘了江南连绵数十里内的风光民俗，是研究250年前社会风貌的形象资料。这幅画作不仅记录了古代商业繁茂的景象，还展现了山川、城郭、街巷、桥梁、河道、码头、寺院、庙坛、衙署、民居、店面等，以及舟楫、学塾、戏台、招牌等，生动地再现了苏州作为江南地区经济、政治、文化中心的真实面貌。
