记载绿端石的开采始于明初，该砚所用之料应是最早的一批，六百余年至今，其质依然细腻温润，淡绿色如有水份蕴含其中，能呵气成晕，而砚面如砺，发墨如油而不损锋毫，为制砚之良材。造型呈长方形，系用老坑绿端石制成，雕刻东晋永和年间书圣王羲之与谢安，孙绰等一班文人共四十一人在会稽(今浙江绍兴)雅聚修禊的场景，其中流觞曲水，茂林修竹，天朗气清，惠风和畅的情景，颇得王羲之《兰亭序》抒怀述志本意。（配红木天地盒）
