端溪老坑砚石，具蕉叶白、胭脂晕、马尾纹、青花、五彩钉等石品，琢竹节形，手抚如沙，细腻润手，易发墨。砚为双面，砚池梅花状，砚心微凹，便以积墨。一侧携刻“竹节遵绳规矩守，多才应向此中求。情交砚友惟书客，自壮观瞻畅雅幽，少溪氏刻，时在乙丑仲秋读□画楼珍藏”。砚台为清嘉庆老砚，原配竹节形砚盒盖已缺，剩余一底盒。藏者自配紫檀木雕竹节形砚盒，仿古制作，材质珍贵，配以佳砚，寄托情怀。
