Giulio Nardi was born in Florence and moved to Venice in the 1920s. There he opened a shop and workshop on the world famous Piazza San Marco. He was an artist and gemstone expert, and soon gained recognition for his knowledge and revival of ancient goldsmiths techniques. His love for the exotic led him to the reinterpretation of a famous Venetian figure, the Blackamoor. Pieces featuring the motif of the ''Blackamoor bust'' soon brought the jeweller international fame. His jewellery was also particularly popular amongst celebrities.
