3rd-6th century AD. A bronze ladle comprising a deep bowl with knop to the underside, applied handle with twisted stem, curved upper end with hook and wire ring. 89 grams, 31.5cm (12 1/2"). Property of a South African lady; formerly in the private collection of Dr. Frederick Lorch, Swiss geologist and author on Egyptian antiquities, and managing director of S.A. Minerals Corporation; acquired from the early 1960s to the early 1980s; thence by descent to the current owner. [No Reserve] Fair condition, part of bowl absent.
