A bronze cosmetic pot comprising a hollow lower body with wing and feather detailing to the exterior, internal reservoir and socket to accept the round-section pivot pin; similar upper body with feather detailing, with square socket for the separate swan head with S-curved neck. See Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994 for discussion of the role of the duck in Egyptian art. 217 grams total, 79mm (3 1/4"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired before 1970. Very fine condition, pivot pin fractured.
