1st century BC-1st century AD. A bronze tubular pyxis with gusseted bands to the outer face and median band of herringbone ornament, domed lid with concentric rings and herringbone band, surmounted by an advancing bird modelled in the round. See Roberts, P. Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum, London, 2013. 175 grams total, 92mm (3 3/4"). From the collection of a European gentleman living in South London; acquired 1970-1980. Very fine condition.
