1st century BC-1st century AD. A bronze ewer handle, lentoid in section with vertical rib detailing and teardrop upper attachment panel, finial formed as a theatrical mask with notched hairpiece and socket mouth, flanking scrolls and trefoil below. Cf. Boucher, S. Inventaire des Collections Publiques Françaises - 17 Vienne: Bronzes Antiques, Paris, 1971, item 284 for type. 71.5 grams, 11cm (4 1/4"). From the collection of a European gentleman living in South London; acquired 1970-1980. Very fine condition.
