3rd century AD. A silver finger ring comprising a narrow D-section hoop with keeled shoulders, plaque with inset carnelian cabochon intaglio Victory (Greek Nike), winged with trident. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L. Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 182 for type. 15.9 grams, 30.7mm overall, 18.8mm internal diameter (approximate size British Q 1/2, USA 8 1/4, Europe 18.12, Japan 17"). (1 1/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s. Very fine condition. A large wearable size.
