3rd-4th century AD. A gold ring comprising a round-section narrow hoop, granule cluster to each shoulder supporting a square cell with beaded rim and inset pyramidal rock crystal cabochon. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L. Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 220 for type. 4.43 grams, 25.17mm overall, 18.04x16.16mm internal diameter (approximate size British K 1/2, USA 5 1/2, Europe 10.58, Japan 10) (1"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired by his father in the 1970s; thence by descent. Fine condition.
