6th century AD. A silver sword pyramid, pyramidal in form with inset garnet(?) cabochon to the apex, incised step design to each flat face, slider bar to the reverse. See Menghin, W. Das Schwert im Frühen Mittelalter, Stuttgart, 1983 for discussion. 2.32 grams, 14mm (1/2"). Property of a Nottinghamshire collector; acquired in the Netherlands before 1985; thence by descent. Fair condition.
